Hi all,
I decided to try a new experiment to see if I can do tent stitching, also known as petit-point. I've tried it before, unsuccessfully, but this time I tried evenweave. It made all the difference - much easier than the 24 count canvas I've tried in the past. So, here are my 2 experiments: The larger is on 22 count and the smaller is 25 count. I actually like them both, the 22 count is a bit easier to see, but the 25 is def better coverage. What do you all think?
The pattern is Golden Kite: Biondina.

I like the tent stitch/petit point on the 25 count, but I think I'd prefer a full cross on the 22. I love the clarity of the smaller one - and think that clarity would be as good with a full cross on 22. It looks like it will be a beautiful piece!
ReplyDeleteI personally think they look the same.. but if you were to force me to choose - I'd say the 25 ct one. Beautiful work by the way! I don't know how you got the patience to stitch it 2x. :)
ReplyDeleteYes I also dont know how you had the patience to stitch that twice! I prefer the 25 count looks to me somehow clearer
ReplyDeleteI like both actually, this is a great example. Is this plain tenting or are you using continental stitch or something?
ReplyDeleteI always cross stitch stitch on 25/28 count, my work always looks better and I only use one strand, I always change the fabric in kits, using evenweave or linen.
ReplyDeleteI like the smaller of the two.Looks more detailed to me.
ReplyDeleteDaughter looks fab all framed up.
Frumos! Spor la lucru!
ReplyDeleteThe tent stitching on 25 count looks wonderful =) I like it better because the coverage is slightly better and it seems to be"more detailed" (I think that's not the right word, but I don't know how to describe it)
ReplyDeleteI commend you on trying this on the two different counts and I think you should stitch on the one you felt more comfortable with. Yes, the 25 count does look finer but if the 22 is more comfortable then do that. You have to stitch the way that is best for you at the end of the day as you'll be stitching it for a while I would guess.
ReplyDeleteI spent 6 months experimenting with tent stitch, and I can tell you 28ct with 2 strands of DMC gives amazing coverage. On the lighter colored patterns you cannot tell a difference, and there is minimal show through on darker patterns. I do use slight magnifiers when I am working on 28ct over one. As to your experiment (I cannot believe how fast you are!) I like the 25ct better, but I think you should try 28ct.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for your input!! I think I'll try this piece on 25 count when I stitch the full version. I have to finish my Still Life With Fruit first though :)
ReplyDeleteKaren - this is plain ole tent stitching: )
They look great... I can't beleive you had the dedication to do a whole page of each!
ReplyDeleteI've got one that I'm doing as tent at the moment, and that's two strands on 28 count!
I prefer and work the tent stitching but however you decide, your work will look great. I think matters a lot the pattern.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work by the way!
I think it looks great on both fabrics but I have to say I prefer it on the 25 ct.
ReplyDeleteI think the 25 ct one has better coverage! I love it!!
ReplyDeleteThis is way late, but of course, I HAVE to reply.... ;) 25 ct!!!!! GO, ANA, GOO!!!!!! :D
